AV1 Image File Format

Graphics Interchange Format
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) was created by CompuServe in 1987 and remains one of the most recognizable image formats on the internet. The format uses LZW lossless compression but is limited to a 256-color palette per frame, which makes it unsuitable for photographs but excellent for simple graphics, icons, and animated content. However, GIF animations are often large in file size compared to modern alternatives like WebP or MP4. For static images, PNG provides better quality and compression.
